Research is a central component of the Department of Periodontology at Mahatma Gandhi Dental College & Hospital.
The faculty members are actively involved in conducting research in various areas of periodontal health, including imaging and diagnostic techniques, nonsurgical and surgical bone regeneration procedures, and the role of bacteria in the development of periodontal disease.
Ongoing research projects also focus on the relationship between periodontal disease and systemic conditions, such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease, to better understand the impact of oral health on overall health.
Students enrolled in the periodontology programme have the opportunity to learn from experts in the field and gain hands-on experience in the diagnosis and treatment of periodontal diseases. The curriculum includes a combination of didactic lectures, clinical rotations, and research projects to provide students with a comprehensive education in periodontology. Upon completion of the programme, graduates are awarded a Master of Dental Surgery degree and have the choice to pursue a PhD in Periodontology further on as well.
