Overview

Emergency medicine stands as a cornerstone within global healthcare systems, serving as a pivotal force in preserving lives, mitigating disabilities, and easing distress amidst medical crises.

In alignment with our commitment to delivering exceptional and patient-centric emergency care, our institution pioneered the Postgraduate Programme within the Department of Emergency Medicine in 2020. Marking a pioneering endeavor in North India, this program admits two residents annually. Its academic framework fosters a methodical approach from the outset, instilling in trainees an algorithmic thinking mindset.

Guided by the esteemed protocols of ATLS, ACLS, PALS, and NALS, our residents undergo comprehensive certification in these dynamic strategies. Bolstered by cutting-edge point-of-care diagnostics and seamless access to advanced laboratory and radiology services, our department exemplifies the paradigm of a modern-day Emergency Department (ED).

Featuring a dedicated resuscitation area, trauma bay, and 10 Red Area beds, our department boasts a total of 34 beds, providing round-the-clock services across all specialties and subspecialties.

We adeptly handle minor surgical procedures encompassing the removal of superficial foreign bodies, wound suturing, burn dressing, wound debridement, and incision and drainage of superficial abscesses. For emergent situations, our repertoire includes chest drain insertion, needle thoracotomy, pericardiocentesis, cricothyroidotomy, among others.

Preparedness for mass casualty events is ingrained within our department, serving as a pivotal component of the hospital's disaster response plan. Furthermore, we operate a designated 24x7 code blue response team, ensuring swift and effective interventions during critical situations.

Our Casualty Medical Officer coverage, inclusive of medico-legal services, ensures uninterrupted care delivery.

Within our ambit of expertise lie critical life-saving procedures such as endotracheal intubations, central venous lines, and thrombolysis for stroke and myocardial infarction cases. Additionally, our proficiency extends to ultrasound-guided nerve blocks and short-term critical monitoring until patients are transitioned to higher levels of care.

The Emergency Medicine Department at Mahatma Gandhi University of Medical Sciences and Technology, Jaipur, is committed to advancing emergency care through excellence in academics and patient-centric services.
